French Bulldog – My Favorite Snorty Pal

Pros: Kind, cheerful, adorable, active, charming
Cons: Hard to train, stubborn, demand maximum attention, potential spine and breathing issues

I’ve always wanted a dog, and finally, the opportunity came! I chose a French Bulldog because I didn’t want a tiny dog (Toy Terriers aren’t my vibe temperament-wise), and a large breed wouldn’t fit in my apartment. Frenchies are compact, perfect for apartment life, and let’s be honest—their adorable flat faces sealed the deal! I read a ton of material beforehand to make sure I could handle the breed. Their care is minimal: you need to clean the facial folds, ears, and trim their nails.

So, the decision was made, and this little wonder arrived in my home!
It’s impossible not to fall in love with a Frenchie. Anyone who owns one will get it. They’re incredibly affectionate, playful, and bring endless positivity. It’s hard to stay mad at them, even when you come home to chewed-up baseboards. Be prepared, though—puppies won’t just sit quietly while you’re away; they’ll definitely get into mischief.

We named this cutie Frankie. For the first two days, he was shy, adjusting to his new home. But soon, he turned into an active, unstoppable pup! He constantly craves attention and affection. How can you say no to such a charming creature?

We trained him to sleep on a pet bed, but he chewed it up and eventually tore it apart. Before we knew it, Frankie was sleeping on our bed. We tried to retrain him, but no luck—he’d whine all night until he got his way. We love our “cuddle sessions” now: Frankie sleeps on his back, sprawled on my shoulder, snoring in my ear while I absentmindedly scratch his belly during a Netflix binge. His snoring doesn’t bother me; I actually find it cute, and his little snorts are hilarious!

As for training, Frenchies are tough. They’re stubborn and always want to play or goof around. Getting him to sit or lie down is a challenge. Even when he sits for a treat, he pops right back up, running and jumping. Outside, he’s “deaf” to commands like “come,” and he’ll grab anything in his mouth. We attended a free introductory training class, and Frankie was the most unruly pup there. The trainer said we need to give him less attention at home to make him more obedient, but that’s easier said than done.

Another downside is that he doesn’t always know his limits during play. He demands attention not just from me but from guests too, which can be annoying. He jumps and nips at legs—it’s all play to him, but it can hurt. I’m hoping he’ll calm down with age.

For feeding, we stick to premium dry food since Frenchies are prone to allergies.

Another con is their fur—it’s everywhere and hard to clean! The hairs are stiff and can even jab into your skin, which hurts for such a tiny thing.

If you want a loyal companion, a French Bulldog is your match. They’re incredibly attached to their owners, and Frankie brings me so much joy and love. But be responsible! Don’t get one just because they’re adorable. Yes, French Bulldogs are charming little snorters, but they’re living beings that need care and training.
